All shades of Handel's Messiah for ACT

George Frideric Handel is in Canberra, in spirit, to attend performances here of his Messiah and so, of course, as photographed in Civic earlier this week, is wearing sunnies against the glare of Australia's Christmas time.

Because his Messiah is so good for the soul and because we've already given the forthcoming grand Canberra Choral Society performance (December 15) a plug we leap to draw attention to another.

At https://camra.stphilipsoconnor.org.au/messiah.php Messiah tragics (this columnist is one of you) will find details of times and bookings for Thursday's (tonight's) and Saturday's production of the uplifting oratorio by the Canberra Academy of Music and Related Arts (CAMRA). The venue is St Philip's Anglican Church, Moorhouse and Macpherson streets, O'Connor, and (Hallelujah!) there will be a full choir, soloists and a chamber orchestra.

As well as being good for the soul it should be a source of pride for us in our centenary year that we're a big enough and accomplished enough metropolis now (putting our Wagga-Waggaesque country town days behind us) to stage two full-scale Messiahs in one season.
